About ID Verification
ID verification is optional for most members. If you choose to verify, you receive a blue “Verified” badge on your profile, which tells other members your identity has been independently checked.
Verification is handled by our partner LemVerify. You upload a government-issued ID and take a selfie, and LemVerify confirms the two match. Most checks complete in under a minute. Your documents are never shared with other members.
When verification is required
We ask some members to verify before their account is approved. This happens in two situations:
- VPN use during registration. If you register while using a VPN or similar service that conceals your location, we ask you to verify your identity before your account is approved. This is a fraud-prevention measure. If you would prefer not to verify, you can register with the VPN switched off.
- Moderation review. Our moderation team may request verification during the account approval process where a profile requires further checks.
Where we require verification, there is no charge. Where you choose to verify to obtain the badge, the one-time fee is $1.99.
If you are asked to verify and choose not to, your account will not be approved.
